About Ginkgo Leaf Counseling
Curiosity, compassion & connection

Hi my name is Angela.
I'm a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Alaska. As a trauma-focused therapist, I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate the unearthing of their emotional history with great care so they can move forward in life unburdened.
I support individuals who are tired of living with the lasting effects of trauma, abuse, and emotional neglect like challenges with emotional regulation, self-esteem, and relationships.
My approach also brings light to the impact of generational and historical trauma—recognizing how unhealed wounds from the past shape present emotional experiences. In doing this work together we harness the transformative power of self-compassion to heal the individual and spread to our collective humanity. When we are able to love our whole selves and gain true self acceptance - it is liberating. Individual healing ripples outward with the power to end lines of generational trauma.
Because of my lived experience I feel called to create a soft place to land for immigrant and minority communities when tending to mental health. I intimately know the experience of acculturative, minority, and race-based stressors which directly affect mental health and well being. No matter one's background, here their voice will be heard and celebrated.

At the heart of therapy is relationship. I am deeply impacted by the rich experiences of my clients and what they choose to share with me. I am ever grateful for their trust.

Why the ginkgo leaf ?
Trauma leaves parts of us stuck, but it also lays the roots for immense resilience. The ginkgo tree is one of the oldest species of trees on the earth. This is why I chose it as a symbol to represent our healing space. Native to Asia, the ginkgo tree is also an homage to my Asian heritage and the gift that has been my bicultural experience as a child of Korean immigrants.
In our work together we will honor and celebrate the rich cultures that shape you and the ancestral wisdom that brought you to this very moment. The day I first encountered a ginkgo tree, I was struck by wonder and curiosity for the unique fan shaped leaf. It is with this sense of curiosity and wonder that we will engage in your healing.
Professional Background
My professional background is in the nonprofit and social sectors. My experience includes work with individuals, couples, children, and families in community mental health clinics. My formal education includes a masters in clinical mental health counseling (MA, Northwestern University, 2022) and bachelors in industrial design (BFA, Rhode Island School of Design, 2013).
My Therapeutic Partner

I work alongside Nelson, an Alaskan husky who is destined for a softer life than his sled dog ancestors. He completed therapy dog certification with AK Dog Works through their Dogs Assisting With Grace program in 2023. His gentle presence comes in the form of happy tails and soothing snores. He welcomes all people and is enthusiastic about receiving scritches and treats, and offering comfort.
It's time to honor yourself
